Cambodia’s Malys Angkor Crowned World’s Best Rice 2024 in Manila

Phnom Penh, Cambodia — Cambodia’s premier aromatic rice, Malys Angkor, also known as Phka Romdoul, has claimed the title of World’s Best Rice for 2024 at the prestigious World Rice Conference held in Manila, Philippines. The Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF) announced the win in a press release issued on Thursday, marking a significant achievement for the country’s rice industry.

This year’s accolade is the sixth time Cambodian rice has been recognized as the world’s best since Cambodia began competing in the annual event. In its announcement, CRF expressed gratitude to the farmers and millers whose dedication and craftsmanship have placed Cambodian rice on the global stage.

“We deeply appreciate and thank the farmers and rice millers who work with dedication and skill to produce such high-quality rice, earning international recognition for our country,” the CRF stated.

Malys Angkor is celebrated for its rich aroma and quality, making it a trusted symbol of Cambodian agricultural excellence. The annual World Rice Conference, organized by the International Commodity Institute and The Rice Trader, a U.S.-based organization, serves as a global gathering of rice industry leaders, providing a platform for competition and collaboration among the world’s top rice producers.

In addition to this prestigious award, Cambodia’s rice exports have shown strong performance this year. CRF data reveals that Cambodia exported approximately 507,029 tonnes of milled rice in the first ten months of 2024, generating around $376 million in revenue.

The international recognition of Malys Angkor and Cambodia’s robust export performance underline the country’s growing prominence in the global rice market and its commitment to quality in agricultural production.
